Why is my product saved as a draft?

A product stays a draft until two things are true: it's set to Publish, and every required detail is filled in. If either one is missing, buyers can't see it yet. Here's how to find out which one it is and fix it.

Check 1: Is Status set to Publish?

Open the product. In the right column, look at Status (1). If Draft is selected, choose Publish, then click the button at the top right (2). It says Save Changes on a new product and Update Product when you're editing one.

Check 2: Is the save button gray?

If the button at the top right is gray and nothing happens when you click it, a required box is empty. Scroll down and look for red text that says "Please fill out this field." It sits right under the empty box. Fill it in and the button works again.

Empty Description box with the red message Please fill out this field marked

These boxes are required on every product:

  • Title
  • Product Type
  • Categories
  • Price (for simple products)
  • Description

Check 3: Did you see a message about shipping fields?

If your item ships, BlackSpace needs its packed weight and size before it can go live. When any of these are missing and you try to publish, a message appears in the bottom right corner:

The red message that says the product was not published because the weight, length, width, and height shipping fields are required

The product stays a draft, and the changes from that save aren't kept. To fix it:

  1. Scroll to the Shipping section.
  2. Fill in all four boxes: Weight (lbs), Length (in), Width (in), and Height (in).
  3. Make any other changes again, set Status to Publish, and click the save button again.

Selling a digital file? You don't need weight or size. Uncheck This product requires shipping instead. See How to list a digital product.
