How payouts work for selling on BlackSpace

How payouts work for selling on BlackSpace

If you're selling on BlackSpace, you'll see a balance in your Seller Dashboard. Here's what that balance means, and when the money in it reaches you.

What does the balance in my Seller Dashboard mean?

When a buyer pays for an order, BlackSpace records your earnings from that sale. Your earnings are the sale amount less BlackSpace's commission and Stripe's processing fee. Your balance is the total of your earnings from completed orders that haven't been transferred to your Stripe account yet. An order shows in your balance once it's marked completed. You don't have to mark an order completed to be paid. An order that's still Processing is paid when its hold ends too, even if it never shows in your balance. Either way, you don't need to withdraw anything.

To see your balance, click My Payout in your Seller Dashboard. The page is titled Withdraw, but you don't need to withdraw anything.

My Payout page in the Seller Dashboard, titled Withdraw. 1 marks My Payout in the menu, 2 marks Your Balance, 3 marks Minimum Withdraw Amount, 4 marks Last Payment, 5 marks View Payments

  1. My Payout opens this page.
  2. Your Balance is money from completed orders that's on its way to you.
  3. You can ignore Minimum Withdraw Amount. Payouts happen on their own, so you never request a withdrawal.
  4. Last Payment shows your most recent transfer to Stripe.
  5. Click View Payments to see all of your payouts.

Do I need to request a payout?

No. Payouts are automatic. Each order's earnings are transferred to your connected Stripe account on their own, and your balance goes down by that amount when the transfer happens.

Where can I see my past payouts?

On the My Payout page, click View Payments.

Payouts list opened from View Payments. 1 marks Approved Requests, 2 marks the amount, 3 marks the date, 4 marks the amount received

  1. The list opens on Approved Requests, which shows your payouts.
  2. Amount is what BlackSpace sent.
  3. Date is when it was sent to your Stripe account.
  4. Receivable is the amount you received.

When is each order paid?

  • If all of your items in the order are digital downloads with their files attached: 72 hours after payment for your items.
  • If any of your items in the order ship, or aren't digital downloads: 21 days after the order is placed.
  • Another seller's items in the same order don't change when you're paid.
The wait gives a buyer time to report an order that never arrived, under BlackSpace's Buyer Resolution process. BlackSpace sends the transfer when the hold ends, never before. An order that's on hold isn't paid while it's on hold. A transfer can wait longer if BlackSpace has placed a restriction or reserve on your account, or if Stripe holds funds under its own terms.

What happens if a buyer reports an order that hasn't arrived?

If a buyer reports an order that hasn't arrived before the hold ends, and the report matches the order, transfers for that order are paused until BlackSpace resolves it. On an order with more than one seller, every seller's portion is paused until BlackSpace confirms which one the report concerns. If a report can't be matched to the order, the transfer may be delayed once, by about two days. BlackSpace doesn't notify you of each report.

How does the money get from Stripe to my bank?

Once a transfer reaches your Stripe account, Stripe pays it to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule. You can see every transfer, and when it will reach your bank, in your Stripe Express dashboard.

  1. Total balance shows the money in your Stripe account.
  2. Recent transactions lists the money BlackSpace has sent you.
  3. Balance shows what's on its way to your bank and when it arrives.
  4. Settings is where you change the bank account your payouts go to.

To open your Stripe Express dashboard, or to connect Stripe for the first time, see How to connect Stripe to get paid on BlackSpace.

What if my Stripe account isn't connected?

If your Stripe account isn't connected when your earnings are due, BlackSpace holds them. Nothing is transferred while you're disconnected, and your earnings aren't forfeited. After you reconnect Stripe, BlackSpace transfers all earnings whose payout hold has ended, usually the same day or the next day, no matter how long ago the order was placed. If you don't reconnect and your earnings go unclaimed for the period set by state unclaimed property law, BlackSpace may be required to send them to the state, and you can claim them from the state.

Which orders don't count toward my balance?

A canceled order doesn't add to your balance. If BlackSpace refunds a buyer under the Buyer Resolution Policy before your earnings are transferred, you aren't paid for that order, and BlackSpace covers Stripe's processing fee on it. If your earnings were already transferred, you keep them, apart from any amount already applied to an open refund on that order.
If you refund an order in full, BlackSpace's commission on it is refunded to you. Stripe doesn't return its processing fee, so you bear that fee. This doesn't apply when BlackSpace refunds a buyer under the Buyer Resolution Policy before your earnings are transferred.
If you refund an order after you've been paid for it, your share comes from your Stripe balance, and Stripe's fee comes out of your future earnings in proportion to the amount refunded. Most refunds after payout won't be covered right away. The refund stays open, and you need to tell the buyer with a Customer note. Your future earnings cover your share, or your Stripe balance if it covers what's left first, and the refund goes out once your share is covered. After 60 days, the buyer is refunded in proportion to what's been covered, and more follows as it's covered. You still owe the buyer that refund.
If a buyer's payment is reversed through a dispute or chargeback after your earnings were transferred, BlackSpace may recover up to your earnings from that order, by reversing the transfer or deducting the amount from your future earnings. If BlackSpace later recovers the payment, for example by winning the dispute, it returns the amount to you.
