Backup codes allow you to access your BlackSpace account if you’re unable to use your authenticator app. Whether you got a new phone, your phone ran out of battery, or you simply lost access, backup codes ensure you can still access your BlackSpace account. Keep these codes secure and accessible, as they’re essential for account recovery.
Backup codes should be saved in a secure location such as an encrypted drive. Many password managers also offer secure vaults where you can store sensitive data. We recommend that you delete any copy of the backup codes stored in an unsecured location.
It’s important to note that backup codes are not recovery codes; they cannot be used to recover a lost key. Their only purpose is to act as a temporary access code in the case of an emergency.
Follow these steps to use and manage 2FA backup codes on BlackSpace:
After setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):
1. Log into your BlackSpace account.
2. Navigate to Manage Account > 2FA Configuration.
3. Select Generate List of Backup Codes.
4. BlackSpace will provide a list of unique codes that you can use if you lose access to your 2FA device.
Once generated, save your backup codes in a secure location. Here are some options:
• Send to your email: You can have them sent directly to the email address in your account profile (note: you cannot choose a different email address than what is on your account profile page. You can update your email address in your BlackSpace account).
• Password Manager: Many password managers offer a secure notes section where you can store backup codes.
• Secure Document: You can also save them in a password-protected document on your device.
Note: Each backup code can only be used once.
If you can’t access your authenticator app:
1. Log in to your BlackSpace account as usual.
2. When prompted for your 2FA code, click Use a Backup Code.
3. Enter one of your saved backup codes to complete the login.
If you’ve used all your backup codes or misplaced them, go to your BlackSpace account settings to regenerate a new set. Remember to delete any outdated codes to avoid confusion.
