A subscription product charges the buyer again on a schedule you set, such as every month. It's a good fit for things like a monthly candle box, a coffee delivery, or a membership.

There are two kinds:

• Simple subscription: one plan at one price. For example, one candle every month for $25.
• Variable subscription: the buyer chooses between plans, such as a small box or a large box. It's built like a variable product.

Set up a simple subscription

Go to Products, click Add new product, and fill in the Title, Categories, and Description as usual. Set Product Type to Simple subscription. The price area changes to these boxes:

1. Subscription Price (1): what the buyer pays each time they're billed.
2. Billing Interval (2): how often, such as every, every 2nd, or every 3rd.
3. Billing Period (3): the unit of time: day, week, month, or year. Billing Interval and Billing Period work together. "every 2nd" plus "week" means the buyer pays every two weeks.
4. Subscription Expire After (4): when the subscription ends on its own. Choose Do not stop until cancelled to keep billing until the buyer cancels.
5. Sign-up Fee (5): an optional one-time charge at the first checkout. Leave it at 0 for none.
6. Free Trial Length (6) and Free Trial Period (7): an optional free stretch before the first charge. For example, 7 and day gives a 7-day free trial. Leave the length at 0 for no trial.

Then add your photos, stock, and shipping details, set Status to Publish, and click Save Changes. If you ship something each time, fill in the weight and size like any physical product. See How to list a simple product. How to measure and weigh your products for shipping shows how.

Set up a variable subscription

Set Product Type to Variable subscription. Then add the plans buyers choose from and create a variation for each plan, the same way you would for a variable product. See How to list a variable product.

Good to know

• Check your setup by opening the product page after you publish. The price should show both the amount and how often it's charged.
